Richmond’s industry has often centred on service, first to the Royal Palace and then to tourists and leisure seekers from seamstresses, watermen and boat-builders to shops, bakeries (such as Maids of Honour) and hotels.

The Museum is home to objects relating to some local producers but often with these objects the exact makers are unknown. We are always seeking to develop the collection around workers and makers to represent more fully the history of the town.
