Education Programme

The education programme for Key Stage 2 pupils is based on the story of Ignatius Sancho, which has been written specially to help young children understand the issues involved. Every visiting school will get a pack which includes the story book and activities for follow-up work at school. Normal session charges apply.

For Key Stage 3, a visit to the exhibition could enhance the work already done on Slavery and the Slave Trade in school. It will also provide a good opportunity to combine the two new statutory requirements (The Slave Trade and its Abolition and Local History) for National Curriculum History beginning in September 2008. Sessions will include a brief overview/recap on Britain's involvement in the Slave Trade. The exhibition will then be used to look at the local connections both past and present. There is also the possibility of a local walk to places nearby where there is evidence of that involvement.

Each school attending will be given a copy of the fully illustrated booklet which accompanies the exhibition and activity sheets for follow-up work at school. Normal session charges will apply.

More details of The Story of a Slave Boy can be found here.

A recording of the music of Ignatius Sancho used in the exhibition and performed by Paul Freeman can be found at http://sanchomusic.tripod.com.
