‘Johan Zoffany RA and the Sayer Family of Richmond’
In March 2015 writer and art historian Dr David Wilson, FSA, gave a talk on his book, published in 2014, ‘Johan Zoffany RA and The Sayer Family of Richmond’, which concerns one of the most prominent families in Richmond upon Thames in the second half of the eighteenth century.
Wilson explained the intriguing circumstances in which Zoffany painted the picture and how it unlocks the complex history of the three characters it captures ‘in conversation’.
